Your Network Is Your Net Worth – Traffic And Conversion Thoughts

Grow Your Network

We’re wrapping up our stay here at San Diego after spending a couple of days at the Traffic & Conversion Summit 2019 that took place here. The nation’s largest online digital marketing convention. To recap a little bit of some of the things we’ve learned. The title of this episode is Your Network Is Your Networth. We are always blown away when we come to Traffic & Conversion. When you walk in and the mass size of the event is 6,000-plus digital entrepreneurs. I have to give a big shout-out to our great friend, DeAnna Rogers, who runs that event. She was a longtime friend. She was my first ever assistant in the day. That’s my claim to fame when your assistant goes on to do amazing things. I couldn’t be more proud of her and what she has accomplished. When you walk into an event where there are 6,000-plus entrepreneurs, 200 different vendors there that are all there to help you in some facet in your business, it’s amazing.

I saw a few people there that are in the real estate industry but for the most part, I was surprised. We do a good job with our marketing and what we do to help get the word out to everybody across the United States on note investing and our extended WCN family. I’m always amazed that there are people that don’t do anything. They don’t seem to get it. They keep trying to do business as normal as it was years ago. That’s not the smart way. When you start looking at how technology’s changing, marketing is changing, podcasting is changing out there and how people are reaching out via Facebook and LinkedIn and a variety of other platforms. You’ve got to be constantly learning and constantly adapting to what’s going on in the market. Steph and I have come to this event. We always get a nugget or two within the first five minutes of walking around. Talking to the vendors, we get something that’s worth the $890 we paid for the ticket plus the travel fare plus the hotel bill. It’s a mortgage payment to be here a lot of times for a lot of people. When you start figuring in costs of airfare and tickets and food and hotel bills, it’s a bit of an investment, but it is exactly that.

It is an investment in our businesses to help us overcome any obstacles we’re facing. Finding people that can help us rip that Band-Aid off and cure any holes in our business. Along with helping us look at the future and identifying opportunities, identifying ways to market, identifying ways to raise capital. Identifying pure and simple how to get the word out in what we’re doing. That’s what we all are. If you’re reading this, we’re all marketers. We’re all in the media business. I don’t care if you’re working for somebody. You’re marketing for that company. If you have a side hustle, you’re trying to raise awareness, help sell whatever you’re trying to do to make money in your side hustle.

Some of the biggest things that we learned and some of the better tools that we’ve used in the past along with things that we learned that we are immediately implementing into our business. Things we are immediately going to start using to help us go to the next level. We were in Tampa for the New Media Summit that I was a part of, which was put on by Steve Olsher. He’s an amazing digital entrepreneur. He’s got a podcast called Reinvention Radio. He brings in 40 Icons of Influence that you call podcasters along with 150 people either who have podcasts or looking to get booked on podcasts. It’s a great summit, a great sharing of resources. People have to pitch the Icons. I was an Icon for the second time. The most powerful day of that is the mastermind day that the Icons, the 40 of us hang out in a room for the full day visiting, sharing best practices. I was honored that Steve and some of the Icons asked me to teach about our marketing octagon, how we market, how we cross-promote, how we take one piece of content and share across multiple platforms to drive listeners, to drive engagement. I was honored to be there.

Your network is your networth. I love our note family. We have an amazing note family of investors out there, but I’m also really excited about our podcasting family, our extended digital marketing family. Those are people that are helping me take my game to the next level, which in result helps me help our note family or WCN Crew members. You on the Note Closers help us help you take your game to the next level. Hanging out here with those people that we’ve had on the podcast. I’ve been pleasured to be on their podcast. A rising tide raises all ships as I like to say. I’m honored to be a part of that group and seeing what those people are doing. I got some great tips from our fellow Icons. I’m totally excited about a couple of things we’re implementing immediately when I get back home.

Here in San Diego, come out and hanging out with people, Tom Hazzard from Podetize who handles our production and his team do an amazing job. Getting to hang out with Travis Houston who I haven’t seen in a while. The gentleman and his wife, Joy Houston, are behind all the JJ Virgin rollouts, JJ Virgin Diet, all that stuff. Travis was behind my website. He helped me launch We Close Notes years ago after we revamped it and took it to a whole different level. It was great hanging out with them. Joe Fier and Matt Wolfe from The Hustle and Flowchart Podcast, they put on a big party that we hung out with a lot of other great people that we have not seen in a while. I have to give a big shout-out to RichE Otey from the RicheCommerce Podcast. He’s a New Media Summit Icon, but he’s also here for Traffic & Conversion. We got to hang out a little bit and I was honored to be on his podcast. Our friend, Mary Goulet from The Mary Goulet Show, she’s also an Icon but also here in San Diego. We were out on her show. I get excited about being on other shows. It’s a great way to look at helping expand our audience and expand our tribe.

If you’re looking to do anything, that’s one of the biggest things you’ve got to look to do. Look to get your tribe, look to expand your circle, expand your network because that’s how you expand your networth is expanding your network. Expand your tribe. We all need to be growing. That’s part of what Traffic and Conversion are all about is helping you grow your tribe. Get in front of the right people and using tools to work smarter, not harder. There are a couple of tools that I learned that is going to blow everybody’s mind for Note Night In America. One of the main principles about the DigitalMarketer team at Traffic & Conversion Summit was one of the three principles, Roland Frasier. He is one of the smartest individuals out there when it comes to marketing. I had the good pleasure of working with him for a couple of years earlier on before I went out on my own many years ago. Roland always shares such great tools of what he and his team are doing to make millions of dollars in marketing, millions of dollars in moving things.

Traffic And Conversion: Expand your network because that’s how you expand your net worth.

A couple of tools that I’m extremely excited about that you’ll want to join in on Note Night In America. He gives me many presentations and slideshows of websites that he’s using to drive engagement, drive traffic, monetize and to scrub different things. Some of the scrubbing devices for Facebook and other things I’m jacked up about and we’re ready to share that with the tribe. We’re stoked about that. It’s a great pleasure to come in, walk in the hallways and you see people you haven’t seen in a while embracing. That’s what it’s all about. “What’s going on? What are you doing in your business?” It’s the coopetition part of this business.

Speaking of coopetition, I have to give a big shout-out to Joel Markovitz. We met Joel after we were on the radio show, Steph and I did. We hung out and had lunch with him and caught up with Joel. Joel’s become one of my best friends. He and Donna and Evan and Sam are great people, such a great family. Even if I wasn’t in the note business, we’d still be great friends with him. It’s great hanging in, catching up what he’s going through in his business. If you’re buying distressed assets and looking for a collateral view, looking for somebody to help you look at your loan files to see what’s missing and see what’s there, check out Joel Markovitz. Touch base with him. It’s one of the things he’s doing is helping people with their collateral reviews. There’s a charge for it but it’s well-worth it to make sure you’re buying something that you can foreclose on or take to the next level.

It’s been a great couple of days of hanging in with great people. I’m honored to be part of those guys and gals out there. I’m honored to call so many people friends and family that I know that if I need to, I can pick up the phone and call them. We’d spend time hanging and working on things. That was what it was like, talking to people that I hadn’t seen in a while and see what’s going on and ask them, “How can I help you?” and they’re asking, “How can we help you, Scott?” Going through things and having solutions to issues like that, “Call this guy. Call this person. I’ll text him. They’re going to expect your phone call.”

If you are scared to get out and network or scared to get out and do some things, you’ve got to go beyond that. You’ve got to get out and learn and be humble and go from there. That’s one of the most important things I can tell you is get out and talk to people. Most people have such a big giving heart. Most people are here and glad to help you overcome any obstacles. If you find somebody who’s not willing to work with you or not willing to be friendly with you, move on. They’re not going to be in business long. I know there are some people out there that are like that, very closed minded. It’s all about me, nothing about you. They’re not going to find long-term success. It’s not going to be the case.

We do have a big announcement. February was our number one month for downloads for the podcast. Our tribe continues to grow over 23,000 downloads in February in over 75 countries. We have something, even bigger news to talk about. I’m honored. We signed off on taking The Note Closers Show completely domestically from Florida to California to the AM, FM radio airwaves as well. We’ve signed an agreement to share The Note Closers Show across sixteen AM and FM radio stations across the country. That number will be growing shortly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:00 AM. We’ll be emailing out and posting the list of the different channels that we’re on, different radio stations. That’s exponentially going to blow up what we’re doing as well and could not be more excited about that for our guests, for our tribes, for our vendors, for our sponsors.

As always, a big shout out goes out to Quest Trust Company and Laughlin Associates and Credit Sense to name a few. I’m honored to have them support us. We’re looking forward to the expanded growth of our partnership with that across the country. We’ll start off Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, maybe adding a Monday show, maybe adding a Friday episode of that. We’ll still continue to do this normal show on a regular basis and then we’ll be basically sharing our live shows across the airwaves that way. From Tampa to Las Vegas to Milwaukee to Long Beach to Boulder to Georgia and Alabama. I’ve got some nice sized channels out there that we’re going to be on the radio with those channels as well. It’s going to exponentially grow our podcasting and media bit business. It will also help us win with us rolling out more assets and things like that across the country as well.

Look At Your Business And Start Planning

One of the things that I would highly recommend that you do is take some time and look at your business. Look at what you want to do with your business. Look at what you want to do and how you want to grow it. I know a lot of people are going to be busy going to conferences like Paper Source in Las Vegas on the second weekend of April or coming to Note CAMP, the online summit, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th. Do yourself a favor and start planning out your plan of attack. What do I mean by the plan of attacks? Start planning out where you want to go. Start planning what you want your second half of the year to look like. Are you going to be marketing more on a regular basis? Are you looking to add something to your business? Add marketing, adding video, adding a podcast, adding a variety of different things.

Traffic And Conversion: When you overcome your fears, you build confidence and momentum going forward.

Start planning those things out because there are many people out there that are glad to help you out with that. It’s a small world and it gets smaller every day. If you need help with any of that stuff, please don’t hesitate to drop us an email or message. I’m always glad to reach out to people and help you in any way we possibly can. Coopetition is the means to a successful end when you can work with other people and help grow each other’s business along the same way. It becomes a lot more fruitful, beneficial and successful for everybody involved when you win together as a team.

Things are coming in behind the thing on LinkedIn connections being made. There’s a cool thing that they were able to share. Marcus Murphy from Traffic & Conversion Summit from DigitalMarketer shared this cool little tool when you’re going to events, how to expand your audience of people that are at the same event. I’ll share that. I’ll share a couple of other cool tools that they showed us on being able to market to people at a specific event, even if you’re there or not there with geomarketing. Whether you want to connect everybody that’s within a mile of an address or 50 miles of an address, you can target specific things. I’m stoked about that with the digital marketing convention and the other events.

There are a lot of big events going on. Take some opportunity, start plugging in and start networking, start hooking up with other people in your area to help you overcome obstacles and learn and grow by working together. Congratulations to Stephanie Goodman as well, VP of Operations. Stephanie was on the radio for the first time with me. I’m proud of what happened with her at New Media Summit. Stephanie doesn’t like audiences. She doesn’t like large crowds. She got up in front of the 200 people at New Media Summit and pitched her passion podcast, The Furbabies Podcast and did such an amazing job. She blew a lot of people away. If you know Steph, she loves your kitties. She is an animal fanatic. She overcame her obstacles and her fears. She got up in front of a big audience and killed it with not much preparation. She’s talked a little bit. She played out something on her phone. When she got up there, she came from the heart and it not only amazed me, it amazed everybody in the room. She was the talk of the mastermind day with the Icons at New Media Summit. She did that in her first take.

It’s great too when you overcome your fears, you build confidence and build momentum going forward. I only hope for those of you that are out there that suffer from being nervous or scared or a little introverted when you’re in front of an audience. Stepping out of your comfort level, stepping into the power of being able to share your message, you realize it’s not nearly as scary as you thought it was. A lot of us play mind games in our head. The only way to help you expand your reach, expand your network is to get in front of audiences. It is to get in front of people and share what’s going on. Stephanie is doing a great job with that. I can’t wait to see what happens with The Furbabies Podcast. She’s making a list of guests and speakers to go on there.

If you have a passion project, connect with other people. Many people have different passions out there that are connected. We’ve found that in our Mastermind before. We found that half the people that were in our Mastermind were once in bands or a big chunk homeschooled their kids. Steph likes to be one-on-one, but when she gets out her own head, she can do great things in front of crowds. She’s doing amazing things. Anybody can do that. You have the power inside of you to do it. Most of the places that you’re going to be doing are going to be very friendly and warm and welcoming to helping you achieve your goals. Go out and make something happen. Figure out how to expand your network and you’ll hopefully find it. If you can do that and do it well, you expand your networth. We’ll see you at the top.
