NNA 19 | Passion And Profits

We all have passions and things that we want to do. We want to pursue both passion and profits and there are things that we want to do big, but oftentimes we don’t know how to get there or we don’t know how to take the steps to get to where we ultimately want to be. We’ve all heard about the idea of chasing our passion, but that’s not always true. Chasing your passion could steal your focus away from something that could help you be profitable or keep you away from success that can actually help drive that passion into fruition. Successful people don’t chase their passion into the ground and die. If the ship goes down, they don’t go down with the ship. They kill it and move on to something else. On this Note Night in America, Scott breaks down how to have your profits fund your passions instead of trying to force your passions to work.

Listen to the podcast here:

Passion And Profits

Our topic is all about passion and profits, how to get the two linked together for you. For those that are joining us for the first time, I always like to share what our big goal is here. Our goal over the next five years is to help educate and create 10,000 note investors. We believe that can be done. We believe we’ll definitely hit the first-year mark here in the next five months and be on our way to accomplishing our five-year goal. Hopefully, you have goals because those are important to help you guide yourself. Keep you directed with your passion with whatever your goal is to help you ultimately achieve success down that road. We all struggle with things from time to time. The more you can be driven and having a clearly defined path and goals, the easier it will be for you and allow you to stay on track.

We always have people ask, “Who is on Note Night in America?” We have a variety of people that join us. We have obviously real estate investors. We have obviously people that are focused on the note industry and note investing. We have people looking to get into notes like, “What the heck is this?” Looking to fund a deal, join a venture, went to a class or heard somebody talking about my local REIA about note investing. We’re glad to have you. We do these just about every Monday night. You can catch us on WeCloseNotes.tv or you can flip on over to iTunes and catch them there as their own podcast. If you listen to iTunes or Google Podcast, if you’re a podcast listener, they are available on iTunes. Thank you so much for those that have listened there. We’ve also got Note CAMP 5.0 up on there along with our flagship podcast, The Note Closers Show. We would be at 130,000 downloads from looking at the numbers. Thank you, everyone. We’re proud of that number. We’re proud of the success we’ve had.

We are less than 30 days out from our big Note Mastermind, our second one of the year. This one’s taking place in Dallas, Texas at the Westin Galleria Dallas Hotel, August 23rd, and 24th. The two days prior to the Quest IRA Expo. We do have a couple of sneak peek spots available for those that aren’t in our Mastermind group. We’ll allow you to come in and hang out for a couple of days. See what our Mastermind is all about. Those are $1,000 a spot for you and a spouse. Let us know if you’re interested in that. We had four or five people reach out to us, only two or three of those left available. If you’re interested in let me know. We’ll be glad to get you a sneak peek spot to come in. That $1,000 is transferable towards your cost for a true Fast Track and Note Mastermind. We’d love to have you come out and hang out with us. We got some great stuff lined up for our Mastermind group.

NNA 19 | Passion And Profits

Passion And Profits: What makes you good usually at one thing is by being passionate about something else.

We have a Fast Track Training. We’re excited about the investors coming in. August 23rd, 24th, I’ll speak in the Note Mastermind Dallas. The 25th and 26th is the Quest Expo. 500 plus real estate, note, private investors coming together for two days of fun. I’m speaking on Saturday there, one of the sponsors. You can still get your tickets if you go to Quest Expo and type in the code WCN EXPO to get 25% off your regular general admission or VIP tickets at this point. Still, for $50 you can come in or $75 bucks, I’m not sure exactly what it is up to. Come in and spend a great time with a lot of great individuals there. Add a lot of credit capital to your investment class.

September 27th to 30th is a big event for us too, it’s Note CAMP 6.0. We’ve got some great stuff about Note CAMP 6.0. We’ve got early bird tickets at half-off. Normal ticket price is $599. We’re doing it half-off up through the next month. You can go to NoteCAMP.live and it should automatically adjust the price down to 50% off for you. This is a three-and-a-half-day event. It’s all online, two different paths for you. We’ll have speakers and educators in one room and on the other room where you’ll be able to flip back and forth if you want to. Have some deep dives with deep content bankruptcy, attorneys, owner financing, foreclosures, business systems. Having people take a big, deep dive into. Which is what a lot of people have requested, we dive a little more into that especially marketing too. Note CAMP 6.0 or as we like to call it Note CAMP Labs, September 27th through the 30th. It’s the largest online note convention, longest running for over three years. I will be in Dallas on August the 14th for the DFW Real Estate Meetup. In San Antonio, Real Estate Meetup for August 20th.

Passion and profits, we all have passions. We all have things that we want to do, we strive to do. There are things that we want to do big, but oftentimes we don’t know how to get there. We don’t know how to take that step to get to where you ultimately want to be. I was up in Philadelphia for the Podcast Movement. Learning a little bit more about how to help me with ours. Obviously, The Note Closers Show has been a passion for us, but it’s also been a big thing to help. It’s been aligned with our goals. That’s part of the reason that we’ve had success with it. Everybody I was talking to about is trying to find out, “How long have you’ve been podcasting? How many downloads do you have?”

What’s Your Passion?

Everybody was blown away that in our first eleven months, we’ve exceeded 130,000 downloads and then close to 250,000 views online. It comes down to being consistent but also doing it. I ask you guys, “What’s your passion out there?” I was talking with many people at Podcast Movement about what their passion is and people are, “This is my show about this. This is what I want to do,” but they weren’t profitable. It was a drain on them to get their word out. There are people out there looking to do stuff that wasn’t doing anything. It was a drain on a variety of things. I know that we all have different passions. Most of us are passionate about our families. We’ve got kids, dog or fur babies we’re passionate about. Making sure our family is in a good position.

Some of us are passionate about our work and what we do. Whether you’re working full-time with a job or the note business is your full-time thing. We’re all passionate about what we do. That’s what makes you good, usually at one thing is by being passionate about something else. We’re using our jobs or the salaries that we’re making to help us be able to finance our dreams. That’s the thing that I want to keep in mind with you guys. We all have hobbies. Some of us spend more time on our hobbies than we spend on our passions. It’s good to have hobbies. We all have hobbies. I enjoy travel. I enjoy reading a good book. I enjoy a little bit of writing. I love going to sports. I’m passionate with sports since that’s my background. At some point, we have to change some of the things that we do to focus on things.

Real estate is often a passion for a lot of people, especially for most of you. You have a passion for real estate investing of some sort, whether it’s residential, commercial, fix and flips or whatever it might be. We’ve all got passion. Some of our students are passionate about speaking. Going out and speaking from the stage or speaking from doing webinars or launching their own podcasts. Speaking’s a phenomenal way to get the word out on your passion and sharing your message and your story. A lot of people are passionate about their pets. They’re excited about their animals or their fur babies, their cats, their dogs or cat and dog rescue. It’s important for that. It’s a great thing. I’m passionate about our animals. Then of course, sports. A lot of people love sports. I play in a league or I referee my kids’ games or I’m the coach of my kids’ teams. I get that passion and being passionate about it.

Ultimately, are you spending a lot of time on your passion for keeping you away from success? Is what you want to do stealing away the focus from something that could help you be profitable? Drive your passion as doing it even further pace, to an even further existence, to an even further passionate and successful pursuit of things. I know a lot of people that love to do things. They’re very active. Run all over the place doing things, but they’re not getting any further along in life. They want to do a million things, but they’re unfocused that they’re not doing it. I think we’ve all been lied to. I’ve been to many motivational seminars like many of you have been to. They all talk about chasing your passion. Chase down your passion like it’s the last bus of the night.

NNA 19 | Passion And Profits

Passion And Profits: Profits are important before your passions.

I can agree to that to a certain extent. Chase your passion, not your pension. Some of the best advice I’ve had from people say, “If your passion and what you’re chasing is driving you into the dirt, it is kicking your ass.” You’re risking failure based on what you’re chasing. That’s not smart. That’s freaking stupid. Don’t believe the bullshit that you tell yourself sometimes. That came from one of my favorite mentors that I talk with on a pretty regular basis. I won’t mention his name, but I know that he has struggled with passion lately. He has changed his focus to find something a little bit more solid ground and he struggled with that. We talked about that. Successful people don’t chase their passion into the ground and die. Successful people jump from one thing into another. If the ship’s going down, they don’t go down with the ship. They kill it and move onto something else.

We have a question, “Who are some of your mentors?” I’m not going to name names. If you’ve been around for a while, I’ve got a bookshelf of things. I have been fortunate enough, especially in the last ten years to meet a lot of great people. Bill Proctor, Greg Reid and Les Brown just to name a few, Mark Cuban. I met another mentor of mine, a guy named John Lee Dumas. I’ve been fortunate to have some great people in my life to do some things. Pursuing your dreams, but you want to live your passion is one of the things I say. The sooner you can align what you’re doing on a weekly or daily basis to fall in line with what your dreams and your passion are, the better off you’re going to be. You have to make your dreams or your passion profitable.

Make Your Passion Profitable

Profitable means a couple things. It’s not all capital. It’s not all money. A lot of it has to do because it takes money to make the world go round. It takes money to do big things. It’s like going to church. I see people that go to church. They donate 10% every week, but then they’re struggling to eat. I’m a big proponent of, “Fill your cup and then fund the world or feed the world with what your cup overflows.” Unfortunately, many of us don’t do the right thing in taking care of ourselves and our families first and making the things happen first and so we can do bigger things. That 10% that we give away each month would often help us advance our passions and our dreams much faster so that we can make a bigger deposit, a bigger change on lives.

On one of our passions, whether it’s pet rescue, feeding the homeless, building houses or whatever it might be. Whatever your passion may be, you have to take care of yourself first. That’s the big thing I say, “Profits are important before your passions.” Many people are chasing passions and they’re barely getting by. It’s sad to see. You don’t want to screw these things up. I guarantee everybody screws up. I am only where I’m at today because I have screwed up, probably more times than I’ve been successful. The thing is I’ve always learned more from my screw ups than I have for my successes. My successes were in direct proportion to how many times I screwed things up. I learned from it.

Don’t Chase Your Dreams To The Ground

Don’t chase your dreams to the ground. I had been guilty of this in the past. I quit a job and chased a dream. I had to swallow my pride and avoid bankruptcy. Avoid losing my home to take a job for a short period of time. I learned something valuable with that. I should have stuck around with where I was and waited another six months or a year before I took that big plunge and make things. People aren’t focused. They’re too busy running around trying to do twelve different things and they don’t give the big thing the focus that it deserves. They’re chasing multiple dreams. “I’m going to do this, this and this.” No offense, you’re not going to do this.

I had a guy come to me, “I want to take your training, Scott. I’m also going to do this. I’m going to start a fertilizer company.” I’m like, “Just stick to the fertilizer. Just stick to the shit because you’re going to be shitty at this if you try to do anything else.” Pardon my French, but I see people chasing multiple dreams and then not ready for what they ultimately want to do. They’ve got to take the time. If you know who Bob Proctor is, one of the most motivational people out there from The Secret and a great motivational speaker. Bob made his money in janitorial business before he became a successful motivational speaker. He focused on his profits first and used the profits then to finance his dreams. He didn’t suffer what he was doing trying to chase something.

Treat Your Passion As A Business

We have a question, “How do you curb wasting time on useless YouTube videos, social media, etc.? I’m doing my best to stick to my routine, but it doesn’t always work.” We’ll come back to that. I like that question. There are some great things that you can do with that. A lot of times we get blinded by passion. We’re going to drive this into the ground. I’ve had people that are like, “I’m going to do this. It works.” That’s not smart. We don’t treat our passions as a business. “I’m going to do this. Spend all this money on this.” It’s not going to pay anything back. You’re going to end up causing harm. If you can’t pay your power bills, can’t pay your food bills or can’t pay to go to a conference because you’re busy chasing other things that aren’t paying for things, that’s a problem.

A failure is an option, whether you believe or not. People are like, “Failure’s not an option for me.” It totally is. I’m not here to step on anybody’s dream. I’m simply saying if you are aware of this and will be honest with yourself, you’ll have that hard look in the mirror, “I got fix this. I’ve got to focus on this.” You’ll often find success a lot faster because you’ve got to have that comes to Jesus meeting with yourself. Most of us don’t have a profit. What I mean by profit I mean talking like a Marcus Lemonis from The Profit on TV. If you ever see him, I’ve had a chance to meet with him and visit with him before. That was one of the things he taught me.

He goes, “Scott when I’m looking at a business, whether it’s on TV or something in real life, if it’s a dead deal, it’s a dead deal. I don’t sit here and dump another $100,000 or $200,000. I’ll just walk.” It doesn’t make sense to do that. I’ll chalk it up to this stuff and move on. I’m not going to put good money after bad money. He’s had good deals, he’s had bad deals. If you ever watch on TV, he has this little dramatize but that’s the same thing I’m trying to get at. If you talk to the sharks, Daymond John, I heard him speak at the Traffic & Conversion. He was talking about how they invested on Shark Tank, a lot of money on these projects and not every one of them is successful. You keep moving on.

Keep Moving

Gary Vaynerchuk has invested in some great things and lost a lot of money in some decent things. You almost need to me to say, “It’s time to pull the plug on this thing and move on.” It doesn’t mean you’re giving up on your dream. You just have to pivot. You got to take a step back, a timeout. I know when I took some time out from when I was struggling with ten years ago. It made me come back six months later be more driven, more focus and realize, “I screwed things up.” I am a fan of Gary Vaynerchuk. There were times I’d come in the office and I spent almost an hour watching a Gary Vaynerchuk video in the middle of the day, 9 AM, 10 AM, 11 AM. I’m just wasting time on this guy. I love him, great stuff but at some point, you’ve got to quit watching and you’ll have to start taking action. I’m not saying Gary’s videos were useless. I’ve got some great points in it. You hear him saying the same things, “You’ve got to take action.”

NNA 19 | Passion And Profits

Passion And Profits: There is no time like the present.

I don’t think all social media is wasteful as long as you’re using it. I don’t get into chasing and seeing whatever he says on social media. If somebody is negative about politics, religion or bashing, I unsubscribe them. I’ve had people come back and say, “Screw you. You’re not my friend.” It’s funny people bitch about that, “You were negative. I don’t want to waste my time with you. I’ll give you two or three chances, but if you’re constantly a Debbie Downer, it’s time to move on.” I don’t have time or energy in my passions to listen to you whine. That was one thing that a good friend of mine told me, “Scott, you don’t have the time. If you want to get where you want to be, you’ve got to cut all the negative distractions from your life. Sometimes it’s saying bye to friends. Sometimes it’s saying bye to those that are closest to you until you’ve covered it. You have to implement the powerhouse of drive and warm fuzzies those videos talk and give you. You have to implement it. It’s a point to turn it off and start taking action.”

Use Social Media Properly

Social media is great as long as you’re using it properly. If all you’re doing is sitting there reading everything, you have to stop reading everybody’s negativity. Basically unsubscribe them, unfriend them or do whatever you need to block them. Whether you believe it or not, I get negative stuff all the time from people. I get emails. I get people don’t like most of my stuff. That’s fine. I don’t care. It is what it is. Unsubscribe. Block them. I don’t need that stuff because I know where I’m going. I know what I’m focused on. When it comes to reading all the negative stuff on Facebook, if it doesn’t fall in line with what we’re looking towards, I can turn it off or I can log out.

There are five things that I’ve learned from chasing my dreams. One of the most important things you can do if you’re chasing your dream or you’re looking for help with your passion is ask. You don’t get what you don’t ask for. You’re trying to close on some deals, pick up the phone and ask somebody. Drop an email. Send a message and ask. You don’t get what you don’t ask for sitting around and waiting or saying, “They’re too busy. I’m sure they’re not going to answer my question.” That’s your fault. Ask, if they don’t respond, ask again. If they don’t respond the second time, ask again. Eventually, at some point, that person will respond to you. Don’t just rely on one person, reach out to other people.

Embrace Change

Embrace change, because if you’re not happy with what you’re doing right now, change has got to happen. You’ve got to change. If you’re not happy with what you’re making, you’re not happy with the hours, you’re not happy with what you’re doing. You have to embrace change. We all have to change and that’s one of the biggest things. Change is going to be one of those things that come with you chasing your passions. You have to prioritize. Quit drinking. You have to start working out so you’re not wasting half the day being hung over. It’s not going out with your friends. It’s going to a real club meeting. It’s not going and playing softball or soccer. It’s not reffing your kid’s game or being the head coach of your kid’s game. It’s spending those hours working on finding some deals so that you can put them through college. You can do things to take your family to the next level.

Perfect timing doesn’t exist. If you keep waiting around for the perfect time, “My hair, my makeup, my face or my body.” It doesn’t exist. Just make the damn jump. Make the jump and do it. There’s never going to be a perfect time. If you keep waiting for the perfect time to do things, you will stay in your little cubicle of safety. It’s going to be scary to get out and launch something. It’s going to be nerve-wracking. It’s not going to be perfect. Perfection doesn’t happen with the first try. Get out and do it. It’s not going to be perfect. If you keep waiting for the perfect time to arise, you’re probably missing the boat forward.

Build And Cultivate Relationships

Build and cultivate relationships. You have to build yourself a network of quality relationships. This is one of the most important things I can tell you that has been successful for me over the last decade. It’s building relationships, building networks, using social media to build that in a proper way, using LinkedIn to build more relationships. I sent an email. I’ve got some strange guy I’ve never talked to before, we’re connected on LinkedIn, call me up out of the blue, “I’ve got a couple emails from you. I want to know more about what you’re doing.” I was like, “Okay, great.” He said, “Do you know who this is?” I’m like, “I have no clue who this is.” He goes, “I’ve never met you either.” I said, “We’re probably connected on LinkedIn. I exported it.” “That’s good. I like your emails. I look forward to hearing more.”

Seek Accountability Partners

That’s the stuff you have to realize. If your existing group of the network isn’t cultivating your relationship or they’re sitting around bitching and moaning, which is stuff that I see. The people sitting around bitching and moaning what they don’t have. It’s time to move on. I’ve enjoyed the BiggerPockets. It’s a great place if you’re a real estate investor. Sometimes it’s a bitch fest, “Don’t do this, don’t do that. You can’t do this. I can’t do this.” I’d rather go somewhere and build relationships with people that say, “I can,” versus, “I can’t.” When you’re building relationships, you want to seek accountability partners. You want to seek power partners who are going to be your big cheerleaders, the people that support you on your path. Support you going down and doing something new.

Why is it when we talk about we want to lose weight, when we go to the gym, people want to support you for that? If you want to be an entrepreneur, do something different like, “You can’t do that.” The community is key. Our mastermind group was one of the most important things you can be a part of. Be careful about who you select your mastermind group. Apart from the great ones, great ones I wasn’t going to be a fit for it. Most have been some great ones I didn’t think I’d be a fit. Lo and behold, damn it was a good one. I paid a lot of money. I still pay a lot of money for masterminds. It’s one of the most important keys to helping you level up on a yearly basis. Take things to a whole different level is to surround yourself with people that are doing bigger things. Eventually, that water will rise. As you’ve heard people say, “You’re the average of the five people that you surround yourself with on a daily basis.” If your five aren’t doing things that you want to be doing, it’s time to find a different group. It’s time to find a different circle.

NNA 19 | Passion And Profits

Passion And Profits: Perfect timing doesn’t exist.

Don’t Stand In Your Own Way

It’s time to do something different. The biggest thing is don’t stand in your own way. A lot of us, we mind F ourselves. The biggest hurdle we have is often the four or five inches between the two ears that we have. We worry so much about what others are going to say or I don’t believe I can do that. Whether you believe you can or you can’t, you’re correct. If the universe is telling you one thing, the universe is out there telling you to do something. You can keep fighting it and being upset or you can go out and do something. You have to trust the universe. Don’t you be the reason for the lack of success? Those are the five things. Ask, embrace change, make the jump, because the perfect timing doesn’t exist. Build and cultivate relationships and don’t stand in your own way.

If you keep doing something that’s bad for your business or bad to your stuff, why are you doing it? If you’re doing drugs, drinking or some of us are eating ourselves to death. God knows I was doing that at one point, drinking and eating myself to death. I had to stop if I want to be around a long time. Lots of us are off doing a multitude of other things because we think we’re making a big dent with doing something a little bit here and there. I’ll do a bigger dent. Do something passionate that you can profit from it. Something you can do to make money first and then feed your passions so much more. Instead of volunteering an hour to go bang on a house, why don’t you volunteer and buy a house for somebody? Provide the funds to rehab a house versus going and donating time. Instead of you trying to raise $1,000, why don’t you go out, do something big and donate $0.10 of every deal you close to that cause? There are a lot of things you can do. You just have to do things differently a little bit.

Consistency Is The Key To Success

Commitment is the key. If you’re going to wafer and sway in the wind, you’re not worthy of success. You’re not worthy of your passions. There are days I do not like to feel. I have not been in the mood to do this. I promise you guys, I will do this. I know I don’t like to go more than two weeks in a row without doing one. Showing up is half the battle. I’m glad to be here with you guys. It’s the same thing about doing a podcast. There are sometimes I don’t feel like doing a podcast. When I do it, I always feel better after. I feel great because I know I’m helping people out there get beyond. It’s okay to take those little breaks, everybody. Consistency is the biggest key to success in today’s world. Consistency is the key to success, “They should have your picture in the dictionary beneath consistency, persistence,” a quote from Walter there for you.

Be original too. Don’t try to copy someone else. There’s nothing wrong with copying somebody else’s plan that they’ve used to get to success. Often the most successful people are the ones that are most open to what it is but don’t go out and copy what they’re doing. Be original. Put your own voice to something. We’re in a world today where there are many ways to get the word out on what you’re passionate about, what you’re focused on. Don’t copy somebody. I would never get successful copying Coca-Cola. I had a great interview with the lady that owns the water company called Hint. She’s different. She’s not going after the big boy. She’s doing something a little bit different and putting her own spin on it. You all can put your own spin on it. Whether you’re the Ohio note investor, you’re the Florida note investor, you’re focused on things. Originality is the key to success. It’s a key to niche.

Be In The Trenches

You’ve got to take action more than anything else. Just sitting and learning is great and we all have to learn. The best way to learn is to get out and take the steps. Go out, take action and be something. Walk before you talk. A lot of people are getting out there, “I’m going to be this or I’m going to talk and talk.” If you’re not closing deals, you aren’t a note investor. You’re a note educator or a note talker, not a note walker. Making bids and getting things turned down is one thing. If you are out there holding this and that, if you’re not closing deals, you’re a hypocrite. This is one of the biggest things that drive me bonkers about real estate educators.

A lot of them haven’t done a deal in a long time. They don’t have a portfolio. You can’t learn from somebody who’s not in the trenches with you. You got to be in the trenches making things happen. That’s where you learn the most. That’s where you also get the most amount of respect in the industry. You’ve got to do the most productive thing at any given moment, trying to do the most productive things. If you find yourself surfing through Facebook and listening, being sucked into that black hole and not being productive, that’s a problem. We’re all going to waste time. It’s those that are most successful who waste the least amount of time.

What’s Your North?

You can have all the talent in the world, but if you aren’t committed and focused, you will flop. Some people like to go to the lake for the weekend and like to go out and do other things for the weekend. We came to Vegas for a couple of days for a little bit. A little bit of key, but bygone we bust our ass. We’ve got some work done while we’re here. It was spent most of the day working on things. Taking the steps, pulling the trigger and doing marketing for your business is one thing, but so many people are educated idiots. They never take the plunge. One direction is key. I want you to think about something. The best way to look at is what’s your North? Often your North is going to be what’s your why? Why are you doing things? What is your ultimate focus? What is your ultimate drive? Where do you ultimately want to be? Where do you want to get to?

NNA 19 | Passion And Profits

Passion And Profits: If you keep working and keep being focused enough, you will see that your profits will finance your life and your passions.

If you’re constantly running over in different directions or going opposite of where you’re supposed to be going, that should tell you something. That should tell you something huge. I had this discussion with a friend, “You’re running all over doing this and this.” I was like, “You’re right.” I’m trying to be a jack of all trades. I’m now going to be a master of none. I’ve turned down a lot of things in the last ten years that have come my way. “Help me we buy an REO pool.” “No.” “Let’s do this one-off deal.” “No.” It doesn’t fall in line with what our note business is. We haven’t always had the smoothest deal. We’ve had some bumps and bruises. It’s normal. It’s going to happen. We keep driving ourselves forward. Keep forward. I’ve got to success a lot faster that way, a lot happier that way than trying to be something that I wasn’t, trying to run around in a multitude of directions.

I don’t want to kick you in the butt. I want you to go out and take action. I want you to go do something. Make offers. Pick up the phone. Drop an email. Do an email blast. Those are the things that are going to drive you towards profitability. Your passions are killing yourself. Your passions are killing you because you’re wasting the time that you could be using to grow your business. To drive your profit, so that you can take epic vacations. Do the things that most people won’t, and you’ll find yourself living the life that others could only dream of. I’ll give you an example. Not here, but in Philadelphia. There are 2,000 plus people chasing passions through their podcasts. Literally, less than 50% of it ever recorded their first episode. “I’m going to do my first podcast this month.” How long have you been listening to the podcast? How long have you been doing this? “I’ve been doing it for two years.” How long have you wanted to do a podcast? “For over a year.” Why don’t you do it now?

They had things set up for people to record their first podcast and they were vacant the entire four days. It’s the same thing I see in our workshops. Less than 10% of our Virtual Note Buying Workshop students make offers. Less than 10% of them sent an email out to the database the week afterwards. We had a workshop and we had 130 people on there. I’ve seen two emails go out to the entire database of those. I give it that’s why you’re on the registration list. Here’s the opportunity for you to take action and take your business. You have a community here on Base Camp. You’ve got a community in the WCN Crew. You have the opportunity to start reaching out to people and they’re not doing it. Go close some deals and finance your passion. Work with the people that want to help you make things and then finance your passions. When we close on this deal, we’re going to book $5,000 cruise. We’re going to book this every year. We’re going to do this.

There Is No Time Like The Present

You guys have one of the best. There are 850 members with WCN Crew. It’s one of the best Facebook groups out there. That group is not for me. I have a lot more emails, but that group is not for me. That group is for you all. It’s for you to share. It’s for you to communicate as long as you’re sticking by the rules of the group. It’s there for you. Go close some deals. Go make some things happen. Ask some questions. It’s one thing to share your story and start tithing to your own cause. The Bible’s great. If 10% is going to help you with a marketing budget, then do it. Use that 10% for a short period of time for your own story, for your own cause. It’s not the raising capital that’s difficult. Everybody starts making offers and talking about raising capital. Raising capital is one of the easiest things. It’s easily the most people believe because people want to work with action-takers. That’s great, but the thing that makes them want to work with you is not the deal a lot of times. It’s literally a little about yourself. What’s your story? What’s your cause? What makes you unique? What makes you Jason? What makes you Gail? What makes you Cody? What makes you Dan? What makes you Stephanie? What makes you Scott?

One thing that is the most important for you to realize is you’re not going to make everybody happy. You are not destined to make everybody happy. The sooner you can come to that conclusion, the happier you will be. The happier you’ll be the minute you find out that I don’t need everybody to like me, that you don’t need everybody to like you. Those that are going to like you are the ones that are going to be your cheerleaders and the people that love you. Those are the ones who are going to support you. Those are the ones you want to listen to. They’re there to help you.

You’ve got to listen to the guy in your head. You’ve got to listen to your gut. I’ve been guilty of when we’ve gone to other events and I’m like, “I’m itching to get out of here because I don’t have a lot in common with some of these people.” They have different priorities. I have different passion. Sometimes it’s good. Sometimes the holidays, it’s not the greatest thing for me. I don’t want to go. I’d end up leaving. I want to be focused on where I’m going. The minute you can plan out your goals and plan out your vision, you’ll be a lot happier off.

Talking about something is different versus taking action and doing something. Please quit talking the talk and go take action. A lot of you are taking action. A lot of you are doing amazing things out there and doing a phenomenal job. A lot of you are having passions and dreams that you want to focus on and you’re taking action. A lot of people did a great job. I’m proud of Dan Deppen from Colorado. If you take action, you’ll find a lot happier. Even if you fail on something, you’ll learn something from making offers or swinging the bat. Swinging the bat or getting in the game, whatever it may be, it’s better than not do anything. Pay yourself first. This is a quote from 1 Corinthians 13:11, “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.”

How many of you are still trying to be that inner eighteen-year-old kid? How many of you are still playing with childish things? It comes a time to be a man or a woman, get off your ass and do something. You got to stay focused. Don’t be like a kid running all over the place trying to do twelve million things. Prioritize your passions. You don’t need to do twelve different things immediately. You’re not going to hit success. They will distract you from the ultimate success if you focus on one thing and one thing first. You’ve probably heard me talk about the book, Outwitting The Devil by Napoleon Hill. If you are struggling with that, go out and buy it tonight.

Go out on Amazon, order your copy, and have it shipped home to you. Get it sent to you. Download an Audible. One of the best books, but don’t let distractions let you drift. Be focused and be the shiznit. Get good at something. You’re not going to be an expert at everything in the one field, but get good at something. Due diligence is one thing you’re good at, focus on that. Partner with people. Focus on that one thing. If it’s not real estate, by all means, it’s not real estate. The note business is not you, you’re going to wholesale or doing whatever it is. By all means, that is completely fine. Success in Rome was not built overnight. Don’t water down your focus and attention. Remove distraction and will succeed five times faster.

Get Rid Of Distractions

If you get rid of a lot of distractions and the things out there that aren’t going to help you. You’ll be able to take that energy and put it towards the one thing that’s important towards your passion, towards your focus, to drive in profit versus wasting time. You’ll find success five times if not ten times faster by being focused. Being able to take that energy that would’ve been wasted here and put it towards your focus. You’ve heard the 80/20 principle. 20% of your action equates to 80% of your profit. If you take 100% of your focus, you’ll hit 400%, 500% of the profits and success will be a lot faster for you. The thing I want you to realize this too, if you have family against you or have people that are not supportive, shut up checks cure most issues, “Thanks for not believing me. Here’s a shut-up check.” “You’re going here for vacation and you’re doing this? You bought a new car. You bought a new house. You’re doing what?” “Yes, that’s because I’m good at what I do. Shut the hell up.”

You can’t own all things at once but you can slowly, over time or even faster time, focus on one thing. You can make a difference by owning it and allow you don’t own it. A lot of people that are listening out there don’t own what their dream is. They don’t own what they’re passion is. They don’t own up to it. It’s like, “I’ll let myself down. I don’t have anything made accountable to me.” You look in the mirror at night when you go to bed. When you are focused on your passion, you’re focused on the one thing that’s going to drive you forward. You don’t have a problem with that. You sleep well at night. When you don’t focus, you toss, you turn, you don’t like to look at yourself in the mirror, you find other reasons. If you’re out there doing amazing things and bust your butt, you sleep pretty well. You’re like, “I’ve got a lot done today. I can feel it. I can sense it. I can see it. I can smell it. I can taste it. I know it’s right around the corner.”

Make A Plan

I’m not talking about smelling shit. I’m talking about being the shit. When you do it, you own it and you focus on it, people will seek you out. Success will find you a whole lot easier than you’re being quiet, being under the covers at night and not saying anything. Success is a blind man in a storm waiting for you to yell out to him, waiting for you to come and find him. If you’re quiet, don’t do anything, don’t get up and don’t go out in the storm looking for him. Success is going to pass you by and you’ll hear the wind whistle as your dreams leave you. The best thing I can tell you all is to do something. Start making a plan. Start planning to do something.

I heard this from a life coach that I’m friends with. Michelle Young talked about this. What does success look to you? A dream board. What does it look like? What clothes are you wearing? What do you look like physically? What are your daily actions look like? What’s your life look like? What car are you driving? What is your vacation? What are your daily activities? If you were to get up on a daily basis, what does that look like? What are your friends that you hang out with? What’s your family look like? At some point, if you keep working and being focused enough, you will see that your profits will finance your life and your passions. I’m not where I want to be ultimately yet. I’m closer each day to where I ultimately want to be. Each day I get closer and closer, and I get further and further away from that guy eleven, ten, twelve years ago. That guy struggling to pay $400 a month on a rental room and a three-bedroom house.

NNA 19 | Passion And Profits

Passion And Profits: You’ll find a lot more success and happiness by taking action.

I’ve come a long way because the fact is I focused on one thing and one thing only. I literally said no to all the distractions. I started planning and I still plan to this day. At some point, your profits can finance your life if you are consistent, focused, and passionately driven. Jason Bible is a passionately focused guy. Started planning years ago and he does an amazing job with the Right Path Real Estate there in Houston, Texas. Why? He’s been able to buy 300 plus homes in the last three or four years or he’s on his way to 400 this year. That’s why we get along so well. He and Tom do an amazing job of planning and focusing on profits first before it finances their passions. They don’t focus on doing their passions first and then their business comes last.

Ultimately, it’s all about doing something and taking action. Taking the part and doing something. I know some of you are struggling out there. Some of you want to do some things. You’re not sure exactly what you want to do. We’re here to help. That’s why we do these. That’s why we throw these up on YouTube. That’s why we throw these up on Vimeo. That’s why we throw them on them up on iTunes. One of the best things I can tell you is if you want some help, we do have our Note Mastermind. If you want to come in for a sneak peek, we’d love to have you. $1,000, come in for two days, hang out with our other 60 plus Note Mastermind students, see the things that we do on a daily basis. Help you learn a few nuggets and realize this is where you need to be. I’d love to have you.

If you’re interested, drop me an email at Scott@WeCloseNotes.com and we’ll be glad to talk to you about what’s going to go into it. It’s two days of intensity. Masterminds are right about three days. With it being the Quest Expo so close to home, we decided let’s shrink it down by half a day. That allows for people to go from our event directly into the Quest Expo and spend a big chunk of time. We got some cool things lined up with those attending the Mastermind to help them stand out from the crowd from the other 500 people. Those who are taking action, I love what you do. Those who are making offers, those who are doing things, I love what you’re doing. This is not for you.

For those of you that are struggling to find a path to success, you’re struggling because you’re running around like a chicken with the head cut off trying to do twelve million things. There was a guy wanting to go to my workshop. He was going to get laid off from his job and he wanted to get into the real estate game. He came to one of my workshops. He was talking about coming to my Mastermind, but he wasn’t focused. I finally told him, I’m not going to name names. I said, “You’re not focused. You’re brand new. The last thing I want you to do is to spend $15,000 on our Mastermind and Fast Track training and you’re not taking action. You’re all over the place. Be focused.”

If you want to do fix and flips and just stick to the Houston market, we are not what you’re looking for. “No, I want to do it.” “Okay, great.” Later on, I go to a Houston workshop and there he is. It’s not a note workshop, it’s a fix and flip workshop. There he is in the audience and he’s asking a lot of these crazy, weird questions. I’m like, “Okay, great. No problem.” Two weeks later he’s on one of my webinars. He started asking all these questions. I call him up and like, “What are you doing wasting your time here? You need to be focused. You’re not doing yourself any favors by being here on this webinar. When you said you’re going to go do this, own it. Own what you’re doing. Put away the distractions. My webinar would only be a distraction to your success long-term.” I don’t know if he’s done anything. I see him pop up occasionally on some stuff. I think he’s gone back to work. Sometimes you have to stop asking questions and start taking action and go from there. That’s the only way to find success.

Once again, I want to say thank you for being on here. Hopefully what we’re providing is value. We think it is. I hope it is. I hope we can continue to deliver great content and stuff to help motivate you and help you guys be the shiznit. Go out and do something happen. Trust me, you’ll find a lot more success and happiness by taking action to make an example. Thank you for joining us here on Note Night In America. Dan Deppen, thank you for taking action. We are so proud of you. Guys, you are in for a treat with Dan. If you’re reading this, you can go on the Note Night In America Podcast.
